ok got it myself in response to light-- pathway activates cGMP phosphodiesterase which lower cGMP and hyperpolarise the CELL MEMB OF outer rod segment. in dark--- high cGMP-- DEPOLARISE memb

may be the question i asked ,,doesnt make sense.. i asked about the substance whic h is released during HYPERPOLARISATION... --and sending signal to brain... is GLUTAMATE i.e it relieving the inhibition of optic nerve bipolar cells and intiating singnal to brain

rod/cones RELEASE glutamate is either excitates or inhibits the BIPOLAR cells they synapse on

One theory: rods/cones release inhibitory neurotransmiter, but when they hyperpolarize, releasing of inhibitory neurotransmiter stops, so you have stimulation of bipolar cells Other theory: when rodes/cones hyperpolarize, they start releasing glutamate which stimulates bipolar cells I'm more familiar with the first one
