i read this on another forum...someone mentioning that prematches are illegal .....is that true?????

Its illegal for local graduates because they are applying under the dean of their medicl school. So they cannot enter contract by themselves without the knowledge of the institution that is sponsoring them. Fmg are considered the independent applicants and ecfmgacts as a dean for certifying the authencity of our undergrduate training. But because we are independent applicant we are allowed to enter contract outside the match provded we dont take part in it. This is what i understood from the nrmp site.

so u mean its not illegal for IMG s but it may be so for AMG s??

AMGs sign an agreement that they will go through the match for a position in any residency. If they choose not to go through the match, they must wait until after the match to sign a contract with any hospital.
IMGs can go through the match or sign via prematch.

Though I dont understand why it should be allowed for IMG s and not for AMGs ?
Should nt the same rules apply to both as they do in the exams, eras applications etc?

They are mostly meant to fill up programs that dont attract AMGs...
