I gave step one in August 2005. My orange permit said that I cannot take digital watches into the exam room, but can wear an analog watch. However, the administrator at Prometric told me that the rules had changed and I should leave my watch in the locker. I was quite anxious and did not think twice about leaving my watch back. I missed it though as I had got one with seconds hand just for the exam.

Anyway, I am going to give step two soon and my orange permit which includes the eligibility period till Feb 2006 says that I can wear an analog watch. I am going to call up the Prometric and clarify this with them, but before I do, I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar problem.

I had an analog watch during step1 and i used it without any fuss. actually i learned a trick to use on your watch to precisely know your break time without having to go through calculations or adjustments. Its simple really, at the start of your test ,set the time to 00;00 or 12;00. from then on ,whenever you look at your watch aFTER your blocks (i.e. during breaks) forget the hours , the minute hand will tell you exactly how much time of break you have used and how much you have left. (anytime saved from any block is automatically adjusted). thats cool.(its personally tested in step1 smiling face).
