Bacterial Vaccines:
Killed: Quit trying Bo's Vibrant Yummy Salmon, (or I'll KILL you!)

Killed Bacterial Vaccines:
-Q-Fever
-Typhus (Rickettisa typhi)
-Bordatella pertussis (whopping cough)
-Vibrio cholera
-Yersinia pestis
-Salmonella typhi

Live Bacterial Vaccines
-Bacillus anthracis
-Tuberculosis
-Tularemia

(mnemonic?)
any others to add to either group??

Childhood vaccines:
1. DTaP:
-D = Cornybacterium diptheria inactivated toxoid
-T = Clostridium tetani... Tetanus toxoid
-aP =acellular components of Bordatella pertussis
(pertussis toxoid, hemagglutinin, pertacltn for adhesion)
2. HiB
Haemophilus influenza type B
capsular polysaccharide conjugated to protein
T-Cell dependent vaccine that infants respond to.

Elderly Vaccines:
Strep pneumo. (contains capsular polysaccharide to 23 different strains of Strep pneumo)

Any others to know???

Oh, yes... good point.
Asplenic patients are susceptible to pathogens that are encapsulated:
Strep pneumo, Klebsiella, HiB, Proteus, Neisseria, Cryptococcus.

Out of these, vaccines exist for: S. pneumo, and HiB..
Any others msyamp?


-Oh and to add:
BCG is another bacterial vaccine: given in other countries not in the US, so not sure if its important to know, but if person has been given BCG, then they will have a positive PPD!

Conjugate vaccine & killed vaccines are they same or there are some differences between them??
