I think it is Influenza visur-antigenic drifts are small subtle changes in RNA genome-in HA and Neuraminidase causing epidemics(antigenic shift causes pandemics). So,maybe concomitant infection with two antigenic variants or something like that?Especially if you are vaccinated previously against 3 most common types(like they do with Influenza every year) and you get infected with a new variant.

Natasha, I too thought the same thing as you, however thats not the answer! Right skyhigh! The answer is C: Explanation given was: HIV. It is this genetic drift that mekes it difficult for the body to fight off HIV and has complicated the development of an effective vaccine. If anyone knows why its NOT influenza? please explain. Thanks again.

I dont know the reason but as far as influenza is concerned I had a query...the immunity provided by an influenza infection by ine strain is effective in preventing infection against the same strin in future...?

I too picked HIV..as I knew it this way..that in same individual more than one antigenic variants existt..dont know where I read maybe kaplna q bank...but imfluenza also has drift but not likely in same individual to the extent of HIV...
