in the eukaryotic cell...

what site is the 60s subunit synthesized?

what site is the 40s subunit synthesized?

  #2

rough ER?

  #3

I think in nucleolus .not sure though

  #4

are they Both synthesized in the nucleolus? or is one of them made only in the nucleus?

  #5

I think they are both synthetized in the nucleolus but their reunion takes place in cytoplasm

  #6

yup they are synthesised in nuclolus

one other source:- 60s in nucleolus; 40s in nucleus
kaplan:- 28s, 18s and 5.8s in nucleolus; 5s in nucleoplasm

BTW, supposedly the rRNA is assembled with the proteins to form a ribosome in the nucleus itself, not cytoplasm..

I think there is no confusion here. If we talk about rRNA, 5S in made in the nucleus and other types of rRNA in the nucleolus.
But, as we know, ribosome subunits consist both of rRNA and proteins.
Those proteins are synthetised in cytoplasm, and then transported to the nucleus through nuclear pores, and in nucleus they are combined with rRNA to form 60S and 40S subunit.
Then, subunits leave the nucleus and assemble to form ribosomes only during transcription.

i ws trying to fig out where exactly is the 5s synthesized(via RNA polymerase III)...kaplan says nucleoplasm...wch iam taking is out of the nucleolus and in the nucleus.
But the 60s subunit is mentioned in anthr source to be made in the nucleolus....5s is in the 60s! so is it tht RNA polymerase III is present also in the nucleolus?

i'm hoping not to sound too nitpicky on this issue......just tht quite a few exam exps on molec bio qs hvnt been sweet.......but i suppose its either spending eternity trying to fig. out molec bio or studying other subjects well and getting over wth this test!!!
mildus, ur input ws appreciated though!
