Hi everybody,
All of you have been great support all these days.I need one more help.I had sheduled my exam for Feb 10th 2006,I took NBME form3 today.Got a vey bad score290=160/67.I was doing good.I read the score thread which had Qbank scores in 70s got score in 90s.My Qbank score were around 64%-66%.Some blocks I've got in 50s some in 70s.But most frequent score were 60s.So I thought I can score atleast 80s in the real exam.Today when I saw my NBME scores I was devastated.I'm feeling awful.I rescheduled my date for 23rd Feb which is 3 weeks from now.My eligibility period is Jan,Feb,Mar.Do you people think that 3 weeks are enough.My Micro & Physio are very bad & few systems like,CVS,RS,GI,Hemo,Histo.I thought I'll do Micro & Physio,whole & revise highyield from others.What do you people think I should do?Please help.I want to finish Step2CK&CS before July so that I'll be able to apply for the match this Aug.Please advice...I feel helpless & lost.

hi swapna, i think you have enough time for doing your exam even if you give this in march. so i sincerely tell you that you give your exam in march 10 - 15 around. do not worry remaining exams can be done.
now coming to prep stop doing question now. revise kaplan twice before feb 20 at the most. i think you have an idea of whch areas you are weak at by doing nbme and blocks. mug them up. no hurry for exam. give it first week of march. plan and do well. all the best

thanks mysamp that really helps.I'm a very slow reader,how can I finish everythings 2 times.Well blind memorisation has always been my problem...I just cant mug things...I'll try though.

drswapna i also have had the same problem all that i just cant memorize a list of stuff or something like FA. But onething i learnt in med school and thru experience that no matter how good my understanding was(i was very good at physio and path) i cant get the highest marks unless i memorize the high yield facts COLD. So my suggestion to u will be go thru ur main books like kaplan or BRS..refresh ur concepts once again and anything u feel is new or worth knowing like HLA CHROMOSOME NUMBER Add that to ur FA...but then just forget abt everything else and MEmorize all those facts .MEmorizing like that will take time but i think its worth it!
THats just what i am doing after an unsatisfying NBME score.

hmmm me too a slow reader. but when it come to the day before or the week before exam we do it faster. practice to flip through.i meant you to revise till you get it number of times. thats what means by mug. we have logic for most in medicine. but facts have to be memorised.even i was poor at that.and in exam we try to use logic when we dont know. most of the time we go wrong. so for this exam especially IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW IF YOU DONT KNOW you either waste time thinking on it or put it blindly. you lose marks not because of that question but lack of time to reveiw other questions. so i think we shd revise a lot.
hahaha pretty long lecture. huh .?

hi...
that is like my situation..my NBME score was also low but i rushed for my exam to catch 2007 residency but the fate which i got ,crushed my all plans...
my suggestion is to post pone ur exam...first take a look on NBME performence graph ..take ur insight as well about ur weak topics..then pick that topic from ur book and read plus memorize it with heart...if u dont get concept from ur review book ..dont hasitate to read the topic from ur text book(remember dont read all the material from the text book only those topic(s) which u know ,u should work hard)ok..because in exam u have clear concept about the topic..then give another NBME and see weather u improve or not...
so friend u should make a schedule,understand and memorization are worth...what i got from my exam experince is "dont give exam until u got NBME scores above 400 to pass and above 500 to get good scores..like in 90s..

Thanks a lot folks..u guys have been wonderful.Now that I have already resheduled for 23rd I'll take another NBME on 15th/16th.If I do good I'll stay with 23rd or else will postpone to March.
I always Thank God for giving me supportive Parents,Inlaws & Husband...Now I thank God for also giving me supportive friends like u all....Thanks a lot.
