If a person has pneumococcal pneumonia and a Penicillin allergy, what other antibiotics can be used to treat them?

Vancomycin is often termed"antibiotic of last resort",used mainly to kill MRSA(Methicillin resistant Staph.aureus and Clostridium difficile,as it is extremely efficient in killing Gram positives-BUT there is an emergence of Vancomycin abuse in the hospitals-therefore,now you have emerging resistance of bugs to Vancomycin(Enterococcus for exmpl.) and there is a trend to leave this drug ALONE,unless really nothing else works! Therefore,as Pneumococcus is thought NOT to be resistant to penicillins and penicilin related compounds-NO VANCOMYCIN!
