Methimazole ..mech of action?
a. blocks binding of thyroxine to receptor
b. decrease uptake of I2 by thy globulin
c. inhibition of thy peroxidation activity
d. prevents proteolysis of thyroglobulin
e. stimulation of production of TBG

in think B, b/c by preventing uptake of I2 by thyroglobulin, it prevents formation of T4 and T3

yes -answer-b-{iodination of thyroglobulin is the process affected}/ compared to thiouracil that effects peripheral iodothyronine deiodination

they do block iodination of tyrosine residues, by blocking the enzyme peroxidase.

answer is C - inhibition of thy peroxidation activity

yes, actually c, b/c of inhibition of peroxidase, and therefore inhibitionof iodine uptake.

well buddy, no offence but u need to review this process....

iodine is uptaken by Na+/I- exchanger, however this I- has to be oxidized into Io, this oxidation process is catalyzed by peroxidase.

Na+/I- exchanger which is responsible for the uptake is blocked by thiocynate and percholate

Peroxidase is blocked by PTU and methimazole. PTU has an additonal value here as ity also inhibits peripheral deiodinase (as pointed out by mjl1717) thus inhibiting peripheral conversion of T4 into T3.
