Congratulations! I have started my step1 prep from yesterday after giving step2 exam. I wonder if you can tell me your study plan and how long you study for with which resources. Step1 is to me is more difficult.

thanks every1 !! DrPak and Rana Khan , i have already written about my exam preparation and experience , you can find it in this same forum i.e "exam experiences" anyway , let me tell you tht my study plan wsnt a perfect one , i was studying on and off since jan 2005 , but got serious only in sep ...so sep to dec i studied seriously.. i used kaplan for everything except patho for which i used BRS and heard sum goljan lectures(but if u hv time then go for goljan bk n do listen to all the lectures) my Q bank ws score 76% random questions ofcoarse ...i did tem online for one month (15 sep to 15 oct) did first read, then 2nd , then Q bank then 3rd plus Q book ....then NBME form 1 (got 570 =95) but i wud say tht do all the forms as its closest to the real exam... another thing,,, do read kaplan again n again , everything in it is imp....dont listen to this tht this is high yield n tht is low yield... n try to use latest notes.... n yes , i did FA 2005 edition ....but a word of caution...though its the best thing to revise the main points in the end ....but dont think tht only FA is enough! do pay attention to genetics , immunology , molecular bio ... as more n more ques r being asked frm these n te questions r more sophisticated.... also biochem metabolism is also imp...i m pointing this out b/c FA doesnt cover these nicely....though it covers other things nicely.... in beh sci , doc pt relationships r really imp , i also got sum ques frm child developmetal milestones... biostats ws weird... anyways , remember tht this is my experience...if u read other ppl's experiences who took exam at same time when i did , u will find sum similarities and sum differences...it is because the questions come frm a huge Q bank n its ur luck wht questions ur getting... but ..if u do kaplan cover to cover n understand/rememebr everything in it ...plus goljan lectures ..n do NBME forms, then u shud do real good on the exam best of luck n feel free to ask any questions tht u have ...

hi Sam , well goljan is a better book than BRS, but i found it tough n time consuming.....BRS is the 2nd best book... if u plan to use BRS then do hear the goljan lectures with it...tht would b enuff...if u can do goljan book then well n good, go for it... another thing is that , i remember the robbins patho frm my 4th yr so i ws able to solve the questions in qbank n qbook thru tht as well... as far as ques go, yes qbank n qbook r enuff for practice...do try n get online qbank..it makes a huge difference n give u alot of confidence...and do those NBME forms as well... well...i did molecular bio frm bio chem book of kaplan...n tell u wht,,,its enough....there was no question on the exam that wsnt covered...2nd msgrs r most imp... its a good idea to make notes, though i never did that...i did add additional points frm kaplan n Q bank in FA if i felt that there is way too much , then i just turned tht page in kaplan and revised directly frm it instead of making notes or adding...if u find making notes ezier than go for it ... best of luck with ur studies....

hi ujaala, thank u so much for your honest reply . i greatly appreciate it .i have a concern , i am basicall good with short term memmory but struggles with long term memory, that the reason i used to make notes, what u will advice me to help retain the stuff every line from a huge material like kaplan 8 books. in other words how did u retain so huge material. do u use to visualise or review many times or daily. i know that different people have different ways to retain . just curious how did u retain so much of material . again thank u so much for taking time to answer my concerns . god bless sam27

sam...well i think the best way is to read n re read , quick revisions make ur memory go frm short term to long term,,,also when u solve mcqs, read the explanations, see wht mistakes u made....no 1 can remember everything.....wht i did ws, i revised subjects i ws good at eg anatomy, patho first n did biochem , immuno etc, which i felt i keep forgetting close to exam...this way u can use short term memory to help u as well...also charts , graphs etc aid in memorizing... dipti, where do u live? well if u knw sum1 close to u who has bks, get them photostat, or if u hv a friend in pak or india, ask them to buy frm there n send u.... ayaz,,,,i did neurology slides only frm webpath, but i ws short on time...i guess MRIs n CTs r most imp....i alsohas wheaters for histo n i saw light and electron microscope pics frm there....if u dont hv it, u can see if webpath has them...
