how many programmes did you apply and when did you apply?so whats ur c.k score?so do you mean chances come down?i recently came to U.S,just started prep for step-1 planning it in june 1st week.c.s in july and c.k in oct mid.i dont know what to do coz this my 4yr out of grad school, though i was working as resident in my home country so far.what should i do?prepare slowly and apply with all step score in 2008 or try for 2007 match.thanks.

scores are all imp. i had a 96 on ck. if u need a visa better give s3 by dec. otherwise u shud atleast plan to have s1 and s2 scores in hand by sept end and give cs stat. i had applied to 112programs on sept5. im 2005 grad. ur residency will help u a lot - but scores are all imp. whatever u may hear about the entire package - it all starts with scores. so dont compro on them. i wud advise u2 apply for 2007 match if u can work out the time frame and dont mind the money. i wud redo everythin just the way i did (despite me not matchin) again bcoz i learnt a lot and i feel i will be in good shape for 2007 match. gl

it also depends which speciality u wanna go to and ur visa status. my friend with same 3digit s1 score got 10 uni calls. i have a better cv and s2 score than him. but he is green card. so if u dont have visa worries then u have much better chances. also if ur applyin fp / psychi u wont have that much of a problem with 1 good s1 score. if ur plannin for a visa in im or other competitive specialities then u will need more plannin..

i hope u dont mind my frank opinionssmiling face

Apply with s1 score on SEPTEMBER 1st. don't listen to anybody. mid october is too late to apply

  #8

of course then u shud apply on sept 1 itself to as many progs as u can with ur best scores. if possible give the cs before u start ur ck prep - shud be a cakewalk for u with minimum prep. also i think u will not have many problems with ck as u are a postgrad. but pls dont compro on scores.

My suggestion is:
1. Be sure you will get 95+/95+ over the two tests, and do not worry too much about the time. Althought some programs have the cut-point for post-graduate years, there is not much difference between 5 and 6 years.
2. Plus, you probably can get USCE (if you can get in US) after you finish the two tests, if you can get that and LOR from US, it will be much more valuable than saving a year. With these, you may end up in a much better program.
3. Bottom line: if you can guarantee a perfect score in both tests, and no way to get USCE, go for 2007; otherwise, high scores and USCE definitely worth a year's wait.
Best luck!

(I am not your situation, this is just my opinion. wink)

well succintly said mghanessmiling face

but i feel that usce isnt a big deciding factor in his application since he already has a postgrad degree which pd will defin look very favorably upon. havin it will defin help but not havin it wudnt hurt as much as it wud for fresh grads who are a sorta unknown quantities.

Maybe you are right apurva. nod
I think maybe I am a little biased by my own situation regarding the USCE.
I graduated and left clinical setting for research for over 5 years. And I am thirrrrrrsty for USCE. One of my classmate (similar background similar scores) get better interviews than me, and the major reason I can think of is because he did 6 month externship and I did 1 month observership.
Anyhow. Best luck to your all!
Hope you get what you want apura!
