hepatits B infection goes unnoticed if the infant is affected and that causes chronic hepatitis to hepatic carcinoma later in the age....pls give me correct ans plssmiling face

  #4

MEASLES- SSPE is the severity

  #5

Polio-Risk is more pronounced in OLDER patients.

HBV-I do not think so because they give them vaccine and immunoglobulines right away(if the mother is HbsAg+) and according to stats-there are rearly long term sequele.

As for measles-I would go with this one because in children less than 1 it is often disseminated and can be fatal. Also, persistent infection leads to SSPE,so logicaly-if you are younger when you get it the sooner you COULD be having SSPE.

Ok at first sight , as ruling out helps.....we have b,c or d...........Agreed, YES!

I checked D and couldnt find natasa's point that its more severe to have poilio in elderly...no where!!! but the good news is, there is no relapse sceniaro in an asympo case in polio.....you show it (only 1% do) or you hide it (the majority). Any differences?

I checked B and C too.......

My personal favourite will be C, as thats what a spontaneous reply normally jumps out!!!!! and 1% of kids who had measles in youth, have sspe later in life.............its fatal but only after it has shown some personality changes and dementia..........

Now lets check HepB...........if a neonate has it..BANG! 90% of the times.....he/she will become a chronic carrier..........and so more prone to HCC......

Now lets read the Q again, it says: Which of the following viruses produce disease or sequelae that is/are more severe if the infection occurs at a very young age?

its taken from a place where there are multiple answers!!! the Q didnt have more chances of producing a sequalae mentioned otherwise... clearcut HepB would have been the prize (remember 90% neonates will become carriers as against 1% in measles)!

but still if we want to choose the best: Hep B, is the ideal candidate as Jawetz mentions that early-age-disease esp in neonates 90% of the times leads to chronic sequalae, unlike no specific mentioning of significance of early acquisition of measles to more serious consequences!
