Can anybody give the indications for percutaneous needle biopsy of kidney?

it could be any reason to diagnose renal pathology.... could be proteinuria(nephrotic), hematuria, ARF, lupus, CRF... I think this biopsy helps us categorise the nephritis into the different subtypes, do immunoflourences etc.... It avoids a full general anesthesia surgery, so done on Local anesthetic. It cannot be used for very deep lesions in the kidney.

thanks for the answer. Among the contraindications for it ...is renal cystic disease.
