What causes TD? Is the following correct:? Neuroleptics (which decrease dopamine) cause Tardive Dyskinesias (tongue protrusion, tremors and spasms of body). I have read that TDs are Parkinson like Effects (which makes sense because both neuroleptics and parkinsons have decreased dopamine in common. In Kaplan Behav. its written "Anti-Parkinson drugs aggravate TD" I was wondering why this is because Anti-Parkinson drugs increase dopamine, whereas Neuroleptics decrease dopamine, so how can they both be responsible for the same side effects? Even if you give Anti-muscarinics for Parkinsons, this decreases Ach; what does this have to do with TD? Please explain. Very confused. Thanks.
