A 28-year-old man is placed on haloperidol after he is diagnosed with schizophrenia. A few days later his

concerned mother brings him back to the psychiatrist because he is exhibiting strange movements. The physician observes movements that consist of sustained contractions and twisting motions of his limbs and trunk, with his eyes tonically deviated upward for several minutes. Which of the following adverse reactions is occurring in this patient?

A. Akathisia

B. Dystonia

C. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome

D. Parkinsonism

my reflex response is tardive dyskinesia.. I like to hear a sharp doc define akathisia and dystonia.

neuroleptic mali. has to do with antipsychotics causing arrythmias and hypertension

Parkinson is a defect in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway

My first response is also tardive dyskinesia...

akinesia is restlessness, inability to sit still and involuntry repetitive, stereotypal movements...it occurs in a few montsh of therapy.

dystonia I really feel like inhibition of muscle functioning.as if muscles are weak..It sounds like that..I would like someone else to define that

its basically asking that if the patient comes with these complaints , after 2-3 days it will be dystonia, whereas the tardive dyskinesia which has the same features will take years to develop
