yeah, its an IgG antibody (inhibitory) against a receptor so type II...the same as Grave's (stimulatory) which is also type II..

i think hashimoto thyroiditis is type IV delayed type hypersensitivity mediated by T lymphocytes

  #6

Doc2378 I remember goljan said it's typeII,but kaplan immunology says it's type IV as sarika said.

  #7

Yeah, I remember that from immuno...well, I hope some else weighs in on this.. glad you raised this Geroo

so guys is it type II or IV ?

  #10

well i think it is type 4, but logically me too think it should be type 2 , non cytotoxic type

anyone???

  #11

It is clear that it is not just one type but both Type 2 and Type IV HSR, but I don't know what they want us to put

  #12

its noncytotoxic type 2 , kaplan immuno says its type2 and goljan says its type 2 . as graves , myasthenia gravis, hyeracute graft rejection, good pastures, autoimmuneheamolytic anemia and auto immune thrombocytic purpura and the cytotoxic type 2 is erythroblastosis fetalis

  #13

doc179 I have kaplan notes and it says it's type IV.which year is your kaplan immuno notes?

  #14

I am sorry abt that I do not know which year of notes this is. But when I give it a little thought ...everywhere it says that type 4 is always cell mediated and we all know that Hashimotos is an autoimmune process so it can never be type4 . it can be either type 2 or 3. But it can not be type3 either as that is antigen antibody complex hypersensitivity

  #15

well guys I went thru the goljan again for this and it says its both type 2 and type 4

  #16

Hashimoto thyreoiditis is also called lymphomatose thyreoiditis and there are CD8 lymphocytes there so it is type IV as well as type II

  #17

all thats fine guys but wat should v opt for in the exam??

  #18

i think answering it as type 4 is better.
