first I will discuss it with the family, and try to convence them that it's better to tell him .and then tell the patient anyway

I think the answer is 1. As i read the patient HAS to know the truth about his illness, the doctor must tell him first the diagnosis and only with his approval the doctor is allowed to inform and explain to the family details about the illness. I think this is something cruel, but this is written in the book, they ask the right answer not my opinion, so the answer is 1.

if that is All the Q says then i also wud hv to go with 1.

  #5

asses the patient , if telling would have no negative affect...TELL HIM

reet and robin are right you have to know why and how of the reasons and the probable consequence that telling the true may bring.

It is also a matter of privacy and confidentiality the patient enjoys. It is upto him or her whom she would like informed about her illnesses. It is her right to let people know or deny others the knowledge of the disease, so technically speaking it is very clear. The patient should know, and who else comes to know depends on who the patient would like to inform. The doctor should only suggest the patient to inform those he feels are best in the position to help the patient. In any case, patients rights first.

theres a similar one in brs which has an option saying ask the patient if he wants to know the diagnosis...

The answer in my opinion is A . The pts medical info should flow from pt to family not the other way around.
