65 yr old man is diagnosed with incurable metastatic adeno carcinoma of pancreas. His family ask u, the doctor, not to tell the patient. Wht would you do.? 1. tell the patient. 2. wont tell the patient.

I think the answer is 1. As i read the patient HAS to know the truth about his illness, the doctor must tell him first the diagnosis and only with his approval the doctor is allowed to inform and explain to the family details about the illness. I think this is something cruel, but this is written in the book, they ask the right answer not my opinion, so the answer is 1.

It is also a matter of privacy and confidentiality the patient enjoys. It is upto him or her whom she would like informed about her illnesses. It is her right to let people know or deny others the knowledge of the disease, so technically speaking it is very clear. The patient should know, and who else comes to know depends on who the patient would like to inform. The doctor should only suggest the patient to inform those he feels are best in the position to help the patient. In any case, patients rights first.

The answer in my opinion is A . The pts medical info should flow from pt to family not the other way around.
