A 68yr old man consults a physician because he has noticed that he has troble initiating movement. The first nurologic symptoms he noticed were that his hands trembled when they were not moving and that the trembling went away when he used his hands.Once he is able to start walking ,he finds it diffucult to stop. This patint's disease is related to deficient production of a Dopamine. Wwhich of the following strucures has the highest density of receptors for this neurotransmitter?
A.cerebral cortex
B.Ext.layer of globus pallidus
C.Int.layer of globus pallidus
D.putamen
E.Substantia nigra
F.Thalamus

Skyhigh is right.

Although the patient's presentation is of Parkinsons, which is due to dopamine defect in the Substantia Nigra, the highest density of dopamine receptors are in the Caudate and Putamen.

where did u get this information from guys??

  #6

the Q asks abt dopamine receptors.
Geroo, ur still right if ur thinking dopaminergic neurons and release thereof, it is the Substantia Nigra.

S. Nigra releases DA to Striatum which is the Caudate and Putamen. These are the places with the highest receptor for DA.

The S. Nigra has one more connection. What is these connection is parts and the type of transmitter?

well the da is produced by the substantia nigra, and it acts on the striatum which includes the caudate and putamen, hence as da acts on striatum, its receptors re present there, ach is also produced here which counteracts the balsnce beteweeen the two

Sturge I mean the other connection that the S. Nigra is the thalamus and the NT is GABA.
