hi guys...just got my result yesterday: passed with a 90/218. Thank God for his blessings and my family and friends who've stood by me all the time and without whom this wouldve been impossible. Abt my prep: Completed step 2 in december, 2005 and then was working. Started prep for step 3 in late October and prepared for roughly 2months for abt 5 to 7 hrs/day barring a few days for travel n interviews.Started with review of step 2 material and then kap q book...scored 72%...78% in med alone and pretty low in the other subjects...higher 60's. then did the free NBME trial...scored 540...roughly corresponds to 90 and so guess its a good correlation.... n an expensive 1 too if 1 were to pay for it . n then did UW: discussed their CCS cases with a friend online for abt 2hrs daily for 12 days and practiced the cd they sent. average was abt 62%. Quickly went thro crush the step 3 in abt 2 days... And then went for the exam... Abt the exam: Its a gr8 boon if 1 has USCE... n for people like me its a damn nightmare.... extremely tiring n needs loads of concentration. Day 1: 7 blocks of 46 MCQs each... some tested ur knowledge n some tested common sense n abstract thinking. Overall I was sure of abt 22 to 25 ques/ block, had some idea abt another 8 to 10 and guessed the others. Pretty tiring but MCQs are what I've been good at. Day 2: this was a big nightmare. MCQs were fun this day and went well.... n then CCS bugged me like crazy... got thououghly confused with placing orders and using the software.... ended a case abruptly by mistake.... 1 patient didnt improve....2 patients improved but case didnt end... I think my score only reflects the heavy weightage of MCQs and I suggest its a good idea to concentrate on them and also spend more time than I did with the software for CCS... I thought I was comfortable with it till I actually used it and made a mess of it... I wouldnt say its an easy exam... but since passing is all is needed... its doable. Lack of residency experience is certainly a 'risk factor' as is no USCE but a proper approach and a good support system with a study partner are good enough to get one thro the approach IMO. If I can offer any other details, feel free to ask. Good Luck and All the best for the match.

Congratulation, Dr Granilkumar. U get a great score for a short study time. Could u tell me about the books u used. U used both Kaplan & UW material or just Kaplan Q bookfor step 3 ? Could u compare step 2 CK & Step 3. I wonder does it hellp if we study step 2 CK & Step 3 at the same time,'cause i heard a lot of people said they have to review step 2 books before step 3. Pls give me some recomendation. And, what specialty did u match ? could u post the name of program which u got interview fr. Thank u.

Congrats anilkumar 980!! Was the average 62% what you got on the UW q bank or on the MCQ portion of the USMLE practice CD we got from NBME??
