hi, i am just about to take usmle step 2 on december 20th.i am an IMG and i studied with first aid, NMS questions, brocherts mock exam and the usmle sample questions. i am better at the mock exams and did around 70 percent in the NMS questions. is that good for passing???? do IMG's really need a much better score to get a residency? whats considered a "good" score here? by the way: i am new here and still figuring things out on this site, its great!

ooops, i just saw that i have typed a wrong number in my previous message, i am only doing 60% on NMS questions, not 70 ( i wish!). this questions seem tough to me in comparison with the mock exam. is that possible? which ones are closer to the actual exam questions? i am thinking of rescheduling my exam coz i dont really know where i stand, and i rather do it later than reapply again. good luck to everybody else who is taking the steps!!

mock is easier i heard but if u get 60% for nms it is promising i will say...as for img (i am one too).......my friends with just 80 are getting interviews but obviously u won't get into top notch programs unless u know someone and have a high score.[B]

hi,thanks for the advice well, i did it anyway! yesterday :!: and i have to say i am glad i did. i improved my scores the week before to 70-75%% in the NMS questions and that made me confident enough to give it a try and i have to say i am soooo glad i did, coz now i can just concentrate on christmas and fun stuff and nothing else!!! ( well, i'll just ignore for a while that i will have to study for step 1 in a few weeks  ) and i aso have to say that nms questions are tougher than the actual questions and mock is easier, so the truth is somewhere inbetween, but the last blocks were reeeeaaally tough on me coz' i my brain was so drained and i had the feeling that they put the tougher questions in there ( but of course that is most likely to be a recall bias  ) the topics were pretty close to what was in first aid , and the picture questions werent too bad, in some of those you didnt even need the pics to answer. and i had the feeling that they liked picking out one disease and than ask questions about it in the different blocks . it is kind of hard to remeber exactly now what was in there yesterady, but the usual stuff, diabetes ( some tough questiions on insulin regimen), a lot of right/left/bilateral abdominal pain and emergencies with dyspnea, hypotension and so on a lot of rashes and antibiotic treatment of diseases... i will try to remember more and then post a message here on the forum. however, i am glad its over and the first thing i did after the exam was having a really good dinner ( actually took the time to sit down and chew rather than having it at my desk, heehee :P ) and went shopping! yippieh!! thanks again for your help and all of you a happy holiday! :!: enjoy and we all shouldnt forget that there still are other things out there beyond our desks!
