A 19 year old woman was traveling in a rural area of south america. She returned one month ago and over the past few days has gradually developed lower abdominal pain and diarrhea she is afebrile and her stool is mostly comprised of blood and mucus. 1. She most likely has a. E Coli infection b. salmonella infection c. shgella infection d. vibrio parahemolyticus infection e. entamoeba histolytica infection 2. diagnosis is confirmed by a. stool culture b. stool toxin assay c. examination of a dried stool specimen d. immunofluorescense of stool specimen e. examination of a wet stool specimen 3. the most likely site of extrainstestinal involvement would be a. genitals b. pleura c. pericardium d. liver e. cerebral cortex

Agree with DrS there is H/o travel to developing country, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In E.Histolytica there will be onset of diarrhea as early as 8 days (commonly 2 to 4 weeks). Incubation period can last upto 3 months.
