Should you order abdominal CT, ultrasound or serum amylase lipase as the first test to diagnose acute pancreatitis caused by alcoholism for instance? I am confused cos have read different things in different places. I think ultrasound is not good for pancreatitis but cannot decide between CT and amylase/lipase. anybody?

First test is amylase & lipase

1st: serum amylase and lipase

Abdominal CT is only for severe or doubtful cases, to confirm the dx.

Thank you everyone. so next best step in management will be serum amylase/lipase and diagnostic test will be CT.
