Can anybody have an idea about Step 3 application in New York State? 1-Eventhough, I'm thinking (and hope!!!) a residency in New York, Can I choose Connecticut to apply for step 3? 2-Do I have to go to Connecticut for the exam? 3-After the exam, Is there any problem about applying from different state and beginning a residency in another state? Thank you very much.

No problem. You apply sending papers to any state (many people say faster/easier: Connecticut, I have no idea about that). Then you mark on your application options where to do your test (can be any 2 or 3 sites, cannot remember, within one or more states). Once you pass the test is universal. It is the same test score for any state. Ok? License is something different. But do not worry about that yet, just worry about applying for that test and passing. OK? Let's see if you understood: I sent my application to the state of California, I did the test in Texas. I passed. Now I am applying everywhere. capici?

Hey man. If you are an IMG, id say choose CT. The thing with New York is that they want you to apply for a license when you apply for step 3, not that its a bad thing. But from what I know most IMG's choose CT as the state. It doesnt really matter what state you choose, just make sure you look at the criteria for each state before you apply, because some states require some PG training before you take the exam.

I strongly advise not to apply through the state of NY. You have to submit all your paper work first if you go through Ny--I have a friend whose step 3 got delayed for months because of this process that NY uses. Connecticut is better. You do not have to sit in that state to take the exam--you can take it anywhere. There is no problem doing your residency in a different state. You want to pic a state that has the least restrictions--some states allow only so many fails. are more expernsive to apply for, etc. Nevada, Florida and Connecticut are good. Call the Federation board, they are very helpful! Kasey at kaseyspoonamore@gmail.com

when do you choose these 2 or 3 possible cities/states??? . I'm waiting my scheduling permit and i haven't done it. I could choose only 1 during my online application.

You only need to choose one state to apply for step 3. I just threw out 3 states that have flexible guidelines but you only choose one. After you pass step 3 and if you want to moonlight now or you already know where you will practice after your residency than apply through FVCS (you can google it) for your state medical liscense. But applying for your medical liscense has NOTHING to do with filling out the application for step 3. When I applied for Step 3 the first 2 times I applied through FL but last year FL was not allowing anyone to apply for Step 3 through their state so I picked Nevada for my last attempt. Now I plan to moonlight in NY and after residency may work in NC so those are the 2 states I put down on my application for my medical liscense through FVCS. Remember every state you apply for a medical liscense there is a fee, so make sure your seriously considering it. Also, if your a foreign grade you MUST go through FVCS to get your medical liscence. So don't be suckered by any other specialized service to get your paper work together for your liscence because you must use FVCS, otherwise you will be paying 2 fees.

Do you have any limitants? I mean do you need it fast, etc? I think you can apply to Connecticut, that is what everyone says. So send your docs there .Then choose Maryland on your place to DO the test. I think...look at the website, call the guys if you have any doubts. Good luck

I took the step 3 for Connecticut...Got my passing score of 84%. My #1 ranked hospital sent me an email the same day de FSMB posted my score was mailed. I had no problem. They are only interested that you pass Step 3 in any state.
