dear bbb

I am just about to apply for the usmle step 1 at Ecfmg, the form says you have to fill in start and date of all clinical cerkships. Now what I'm confused about is, in my medical school we have 6 years,
premed one year
2 years preclinical
2 years clinical where we attach to the major clinical departements ,each twice and have practical experience
last year of internship before graduation where we are paid half of a full physicians and work in hospital again rotating in all 4 departments.under supervision.

So which one do I fill in ?

i had six year programm , and i attached experience after each year ( i guess in early courses whatever you had on summer and on 6th during rotations we had some documented experience). i think you can find it on your diploma ( on my i have) . basically i put experience for 3rd 4 th 5th and 6th year. we did not have internship i did not put anything. but i think it is a special paragraph in the usmle application for internship. while you going to put your clerkship you may run out of space, do not be afraid and just attach another page and continue write about your clerkship. my application was accepted .good luck .

Good answer - as good as anything that I can think of!

Write everything. I put down every clerkship. It will never count against you. More importantly, they are going to verify your degree with the University anyway, after you've passed all the exams so what you write likely makes very little difference.

BTW keep the list of clerkships somewhere since you need it for the Step II application, Step III application, come residency spots, CSA, etc and if it is as long as mine it is a pain in the &$^ to remember!
