I think stupidest thing in part I prep is requirement to remember the chromsome numbers to disease. I have got PhD in cancer biology and I dont think they are important at all to any one. Neither to doctors, patients or researchers. Well, what can you do.
Here is a little story that can make life very easy for you.
Here it goes:
At the age of 5 you are mostly crying (5q –Cru De Chat syndrome)
At the age of 11 all you WANT is Pick at a girl. (W= Wilm’s tumor, A= Albinism, N and Pick is for Neimann Pick disorder).
At the age of 13 you want to patau a girl. (Patau in hindi-indian language means score a girl, sorry to my international friends).
By the age of 15 many dream about Marvelous Sachs (M for Marfan’s and Sachs for Tay-Sachs)
At the age of 17 some one has fibrosed your heart and brain (NF-1)
By the age of 21, after all futile attempt of wooing a girl you feel Down (Down’s syndrome).
But now when you see a chromosome number question on USMLE you wont cry because age corrospond to the chromosome number where gene is located.
How do you like it

Hi,

well you have mentioned few of em, I'm sure you know that their are many. But, whether it is important in the clinical life or not, or in research, its important in USMLE. In USMLE you have to remember anti mitochondrial anti body for primary biliary cirrhosis, which you will find very rare in research or in clinic, but it in USMLE.

You can't say why its their, but you have to find out what is their, so that you can get thru.

GOOD LUCK.

Thanks wiseman!! We all know we need that information to be remembered. My purpose was just to point some mediocrity of standardized exams and help others to remember the numbers with the story I came up with. Thats all.
