The clearance of several substances was measured at a constant glomerular filtration rate and constant urine

flow rate, but at increasing plasma concentrations of the substance. Under these conditions, clearance will

increase at high plasma concentrations for which of the following substances?

A. Creatinine

B. Mannitol

C. Penicillin

D. Phosphate

E. Urea

plz explain why u choose what i choose.

the mechanism of Tm reabsorption described in the Q is the same used by glucose as well as sodium, aminoacids, ketone bodies, protiens & peptides and Even Phosphate.
IMO, the Q is just testing if you know that list.
anyone else?

  #3

so urea is ans?

urea is reabsorbed at collecting duct right?

and the rest mentioned above are reabsorbed at the PCT
does this include mannitol and creatinine

Plz correct me.

  #4

is it related to all substances transported by fasciliated diffusion which will show Tm?

i think phosphate is the ans

  #6

sturge, ur right
skyhigh, 50% of urea is reabsorbed in the PCT...and that too passively. As i recall, Distal tubule onwards it is impermeable to urea. unless ADH action is present.
malinda, its related to those substances, esp the natural ones listed earlier who are reabsorbed at Tm.
msyamp, are u sure urea is also absorbed by Tm?

  #8

yes phosphate is the right answer

  #9

urea is passively reabsorb

phosphate is ans

  #10

well the substances reabsorbed by the tm mechanism re the glucose, peptides, proteins, aminoacids, calcium and phosphate....

urea is only partially reabsorbed by the tm and partially absorbed pssively, hence it cannot be the answer, hence the only answer choice that matches is phosphate
