explain lack of pitting edema in primary aldosteronism?????

  #2

because there the fiud retention will decreaase renin angiotensin system and lead to decreased peripheral resistance and increased flow. there is not edema. there is no hypoalbuniemia as may be seen in secondary hyper adosteronism.

hey nice concept Q!

adding to the explanation above.....
in primary aldosteronism due to increased Na reabsorption there will be an increase in plasma volume. This increased end arterial blood volume will subsequently a decrease Na reabsoprtion and increase loss(note:lower renin). Basically, the Na reabsorption is nicely counterbalanced by Na excretion(as and when there is volume overload). Thanks to this balance, there is no development of pitting edema.

So in primary aldosteronism....there is mild hypernatermia....and severe hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis. This is an eg of low renin hypertension.

Give another example of low renin hypertension.
