VSD :is either 1)muscular :results from defect in theformation of the interventricular septum (muscular sinceit is derived from the primitive ventricles)

or 2)membraneous:resultsfrom a defect of the downward extension of the aorticopulmonary septum(right and left bulbar ridges)this explains its association withaortico pulmonary valvular problems, inaddition to its association with tetralogy of fallot and persistant truncus arteriosis.

As for PDA ,inuterine life it is patent for two reasons 1)low oxygen pressure in the bloodflowing through it ,and 2)high PGE produced by the placenta.

at normal birth these two causes a rereversed, thereby stimulating the smooth muscles lining this blood vessel to contract, hence, onstrict thevessel and close it within hours.however,in premature babies this doesn't happen ,the vessel, therefore ,doesnt close,so we create these factors bygiving oxygen and indomethacin(anti pg).
