It shows the program that you are really, really interested, especially if you go to the expense of seeing the program again. We have moved our rank list around based on the fact that someone came back! I think we have had about 6-7 second looks so far this year - great candidates for all of them (wink, wink to the ones that know.....)

Will I impress less with second visit if I don't need to pay expensive transportation to the program? (All the programs I applied to can be reached by subway/bus, which is only $2 one way )

bbb, how do you go about requesting a second look? I believe that may require some arrangement on the program's side to meet with the candidate? What would you do or look for in your second look? If you already sent an email stressing your interest in the program, would not a seconf visit seem like an overkill? thnx

Call or email the PC. At my hospital, I meet the candidate in the morning, find a team to place them with and I don't see the candidate until they are ready to go home.

Any suggestions what I might do during the 2nd visit? Obviously I wont be going on another tour or another set of interviews... so how do I make the most of my time there? Do I request to speak with the PD for a few minutes (to go over a couple of questions that came to me AFTER the interview)? do I hang with the residents? to I attend one of the conferences? It's just that I dont wont to seem so out of place or intruding on anyone's time. Ideas anyone?

sga430 - ask if it's possible to do the second look the next day. After all you are in town. Alhambramd - the program knows what you will be doing, you'll be with the residents and not in the offices. Here, I put you on a team on the medical floor and you see how rounds go. Most of the time, the applicants on a second look don't see the program director (unless he's rounding) - it's a candid look at how the program really is. It gives you the chance to see us in our "underwear" (so to speak). Good luck
