What is the significance?

Hoffman's sign is a neurogical sign for problems in the spinal cord. It is associated with loss of grip.

the test for hoffman's sign is tapping the nail on the third or fourth finger. A positive hoffman's sign is involuntary flexing of the thumb and index finger.

It is an indicator of cervical spondylitis and multiple sclerosis. In multiple sclerosis, hoffman's sign is due to injury on the spinal cord to the motor nerves that control the hand,(c5).

ya. it is a sign of upper motor neuron disease. if we have an amputated limb on the affected side of paralysis we use the uppr limb alternative of babinsky's sign. that is hoffman's as described by skyhigh.
