Hi All ! I just came accross a Step 1 Score Estimator a couple of Med-students made, which looks pretty interesting. The way it works is you enter your Q-bank, NBME (paid) test score, USMLE CD results, and it will calculate an estimated Step 1 score based on regression models. I thought I´d share this with you - afterall, we can all use some feedback on our studying and maybe even some motivation (hopefully!)!!! One more thing: in order for the estimator to become even more reliable, they need people to submit their actual results from the Step 1. Don´t worry: it is completely anonymous ! So everyone who´s taken the exam already (whether you passed or failed) please also submit your scores (Qbank, NBME, CD, and the actual result) to the calculator. You´ll find all the details under the Link "Anonymous Score Submissions" on their website. Thanks. Anyway, here’s the website: http://www.medfriends.org/step1_estimator Have fun and good luck to all of you on your exam ! As an after-thought: anyone who knows their Step 1 result already- please try this and let us know how reliable the estimator is. Thank you !!!

Great tool, cause i didnt did the NBME so i think my assessment was not that accurate. It estimated my score from my qbank and usmle practice material score. So it was about 6-8 points above my actual 3 digit score.

Neat tool! It was around 8 off for the Kaplan, better for the USMLE CD (5 off in the other direction), and even better yet for the NBME score. The score from the MCAT was pretty far off, but I guess that is to be expected. Scores submitted anonymously.

Thanks for your feedback, Kingsofke and HighFive ! And for submitting your scores. I´ll do that too, as soon as I get mine (though it will take a bit, since I´m "only" taking my exam next week). Wish me luck !!! (GL for everyone else too, of course !)

How much was it off on your NBME, malinda? My estimated score was only off a few points based on the NBME.

I found the Kaplan correlation to be somewhat accurate. It was off by about 8 for Kaplan. Better for the USMLE free and NBME predictions. kingsofke found the Kaplan to be within 6-8 also. (see above)

Quite comforting to find out that an easy just-pass(75/183) on the real exam parallels to a modest 55% on the Qbank! Although the web-site's 'disclaimer' sticks out like a sore thumb!

I've heard its very accurate for the NBME scores, like always within a few points on the 3D score.

Hmmm... Well I'm not sure what's going on, then. Because the "Kaplan Residency Expert S" on the Kaplan boards just posted the following: "Within those limitations, a consistent score on Qbank of 70% suggest that you should not only pass, but do very well. I'd expect scores over 220 and higher. (This means a score in the 90's)." If a qbank score above 70% correlates to a 220 or above, I don't see how a 65% on QBank is "just passing". Perhaps you could include a reference link? I'm curious what this is all about. The quote from the Kaplan Residency Expert above would seem to be consistent with the results of the score estimator (70% correct on QBank gives an estimated score of 229). Here's a link to the quote cited above: http://kaptest.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=63...

Actually, here's another quote from "Kaplan Residency Expert J": "Our data on Qbank suggests that those who are consistently doing 65% or better will likely pass the exam. Those in the 70 range typically get at least the US student average, and those in the higher 70s or better tend to get those much desired 90 and up scores. But in any prediction, realize that 1/2 will do worse than this, and 1/2 will do even better. " It would seem that the Kaplan Residency Experts are not even consistent with themselves. Considering their apparently contradictory statements, I'm not sure what to make of it all... Here's the link to the above quote: http://kaptest.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=17...

One last quote from "Kaplan Residency Expert S". This quote would also seem to be consistent with the results of the Step 1 Score Estimator. "Rules of thumb: % correct Predicted outcome Less than 55%: High risk of failure 55% to 60%: Risk of failure 60% to 65%: Likely pass/lower score 65% to 70%: Expect pass/may beat mean of 216 Over 70%: Expect high score 230+ Results vary, but this is the best guess from data we have collected. Remember that this only applies to fresh questions you have not seen before, done in mixed subjects, and answered in exam like situations with a clock running." Here's a link to the quote above: http://kaptest.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=30...=

i think kaplan says that to make sure you pass, obvioulsy a few people scoring 65% on qbank wont pass because of specific exam day factors, stress, harder exm , noise, etc. so, i guess if you socre over 65% you should most likely pass. i have many friends who never made it to 65% on qbank and still passed so relaz everybody but study obviously you want to make a nice over 90 on the step 1.

I used the score estimator with my USMLE CD sample and found the actual USMLE score to be 7 pt better than the prediction. USMLE score predictor (only with USMLE CD sample score)= 220 Actual USMLE score = 227 GL
