Bridgeport is a small community hospital afiliated to world famous yale University, but infact from what people say hospital of St.raphael is much more closely affiliated to Yale than bridgeport.

We went to programme co-ordinators officein the morning an she was a nice person, she gave me some inside info about the shortlisting process.

We were taken to the hospital conference room wherein the chief resident addressed us who was nice and put forward honest picture of the programme,he said in terms of affiliation we r close to yale and yale faculty come and teach here, but i got an impression from him as well as from some attendings that they have been having difficulties in getting people into fellowships(i mean the competetive ones recently)

Guys the way we shud see how strong programme is and how programme helps us is to ask and findout how successfull programme has been in placing IMGS' into competetive fellowship programmes!!!!yes AMGS' will get into fellowship and it is lot easie for them it is the way imgs perform that shud be your benchmark in judging the hospital, because u will be going in there as an img right say if no one has made it into gastro for past 5-6 years then if u like to do fellowship in gastro then it will be like..!! yeah no need to guess right?.

very energetic programme director with good connections. But bit arrogant as well but i heard that he helps out people to get them into fellowships but it has been i think 4/5 years since any img has gotten into cardio from this programme.

I had two interviews first with an associate pd who was nice she is a pulmonologist,no medical questions asked, asked why u wanna come to usa now when ur trainng in UK!!. said less people have gone into cardio and gastro fellowships but they do get them according to her.

Later morning report which was crap to say the least, most residents lacked that enthusiasm which u see in a really academic programme!!!! well yes this was my impression, yours might have been diffrent!!.

Then interviewed by pd just lasted 3-4 minutes nothing asked just general talk.

Then hospital tour and lunch. the hospital is bit dirty and unkempt, and i was told by residents that the affiliation to yale is strong but not as strong as other hospital( st Raphael). limited and tolerable workload.

THERE IS ONLY ONE FELLLOWSHIP POSITION IN CARDIO WHICH INVARIAB;Y GOES TO AN YALE GRADUATE(A MEDIOCRE ONE,GOOD ONES DONT COME HERE,OH YEAH AND AN AMG ALWAYS!!!,VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS IN LAST 10 YEARS!!).

Later interviewed by PD,EXIT INTERVIEW---

Popssibly he had pre-decided to offer me pre-match but tone was like take it or we wont rank you!!!!(he didn't exactly say this,bu i came to know the way he spoke, but made it more or less clear after via e-mail!! hehe).Great guy though!!!,well learned and knowledgeble.

offered pre-match there itself I didnot know what to say so said i will let you know soon. No problems with H1B visa they sponsor h1B and people had no trouble in geting it.

All in all a fairly ok programme, but u might have a real difficulty if u wanna go for cardio or gastro fellowships. very nice and energetic pd very enthu and has got stronng connections, but arrogant, also they have got some really good clinical research opportunities and residents have regularly published papers and given poster presentations.

I would say people considering comunity hospital who woulnt mind primary care and less competetive fellowships can easily feel at home here.

cons:

dirty hospital.

Bridgeport is one among top ten dangerous places to live in USA

forget cardio and gastro.

high crime rate, because of unemployment i heard that at one time it was a fantastic placxe to live. i will not rank this programme forget about pre-match,that too after a beautifull script via internet from PD,thanks a lot!!!
