Hi,

I am an IMG from Germany and want to take the USMLE Step 1 in March. What I would like to know is how many questions out of the 350 test questions on the exam should be correctly answered to receive a good / excellent score ? I have read the description about SCORE REPORTS in FIRST AID, but I am not sure if I have understood it. Thanks for helping !!

Hey Doczet,

here´s something I got off the official USMLE-Homepage:

"The USMLE program recommends a minimum passing score for each Step. Currently, the passing scores as set by the USMLE program are 182 for Step 1, 182 for Step 2 CK and 184 for Step 3 on the 3-digit scale, or 75 on the 2-digit scale. Each of these corresponds to answering 60-70% of the items correctly. Performance standards for USMLE are based on a specified level of proficiency."

So in order to pass, we need to answer somewhere between 60 - 70 % correctly. Which means the more you get correct, the better your score. For more infos, go to the FAQ section on www.usmle.org. Hope this helps !
