Studying is giong much slower. I am little confused. The reason for taking nbme is two fold- find my weaknesses and distill some confidence so I stop doubting my self. Since I have been on and off so many times reading the material in last 4 months that I do think I should review atleast first aid thoroughly before I attempt it. But it seems it is taking long time then I thought and I may not take the exam on Sunday. Should I wait couple day to finish review or just go ahead and do it?

Sachida,
If I were you, I would be confident and then only take the NBME test because a good score on that one wouldl boost your final preparation for the Step 1.

I think so too because low score will kill enthusiasm and will require lot of self beleif to go forward. But I cant let it be late by more then 2 days. So I will have it by Wenesday.

On a seperate note, I got a good news. My research paper has been accepted for publication in Human Genetics journal. This will be my second.

Seems like its going good. Slow but good I am trying to finish pathology while doing kaplan q bank. Today I scored best of all blocks I ever did- it was general pathology and I scored 84%...
Q bank is helping me a lot...
I am not so sure about NBME it may get delayed more then two days but I have to keep pushing myself. I have to work today for atleast 4-6 hrs so I am not sure how much I can complete but I will try my best to complete 6 systems in pathology.

It is going slow but I am consistently getting 80-85% on Qbank pathology. Let me see how much I can finish today

I got side tracked today and did mol bio and some genetics. I got only 66% on mol bio!! I should have got more.. having PhD you think..but I was just thinking too much or did not read questions thoroughly and ended with wrong answers. Well, I guess I need to be more careful..

i tell you my experience with qbank and micro. i was getting correct those questions taht less than 30% students got and missing those ones that 80% got right!!!! it does no good to leave out the basics. so check out if you have similar problem as i do. at the bottom of teh review per qustion you will find how others did relative to you.

Thanks tolito for that suggestion. I think it is true for me also somewhat...especially when I misread the questions of did not read it completely. I am trying to make a habit of reading the last sentence of question first to avoid that mistake. Also, memorization fails me sometimes..I am not good at it.
Thing that pleases me most is the fact that kaplan qbank the direct answers are hardly available.. for e.g. if they are testing the fact that type I DM is more likely to get diabetic ketoacidosis...the answer choice does not list that fact directly but in some otherways..it makes you search for related fact and therefore mimic the real exam..
This practice compels me to cross out wrong answers and arrive to the right answer. When I started doing the Q bank I used to feel furstrated for not "knowing" the answer but now that I keep getting >75% at least in patho, pathophysio I am getting more confident and comfertable making answer choices.

hey sachida,thanks for such encouraging words!when i was reading your post i started to feel the way you have written.ya thats true,some moments are not in your hands but whatever you have make use of it,right.that is really sweet of you.i have to exam in next month just a week after you,but still sruggling with bad score on qbank,nbme.especially for general principals,biochem and behavioral sci. and also doing silly mistakes.somtimes i think yes i can do as i did in my bachelor years,give some time....my own time for sitting 12 hours just thinking about books,i ll eat whatver i can,i ll sleep at any time.but....its not possible now,with family,as a wife as sis-in-law,as daughter-in-law.something keeps coming and i cant isolate myself,as i know i should not because i am born for these people not for exam.but yes...this is not excuse i want to give,but moms in this forums,peoply like you who are doing other job also has some spirit to fight on various fronts......much more difficult jobs than me....and i am really motivating myself by you,amazing people.trying to keep up my spirit,jut because of you guys.thanks again,dear.

NBME still confuses me. peopl say there are different exmas numbered 1 to 4 I guess and they start getting harder. Also the last two reflect the true exam..
Can someone adivse me on this.. which one to take...I dont have many days left but I will definately take one...
Thanks dipti for dropping by and sharing your struggle.. I realy command all women in the forum since they do have lots of responsibilities..some even have kids..
It really takes big effort and commitment...many of you have wonderful partners who support but most importantly you all beleive in yourself..
Yes, I do work but my boss is quite understanding.. for e.g. I am not going to work at all for last few days and probably untill exam and still get paid.. I did work my butt off for last 5 years as a grad student so now I guess she is giving me a break..
well back to studies lot to read today I am already behind the schedule...but I am trying to enjoy it..

I don't think that the exams get harder. But, I have known that NBME exams 3 and 4 scores are most reflective of the real exam. Since it looks like you are not going to take all 4 tests anyway, it is better to do 3 or 4. Helps?

That is a doubt even I have. I think there is a 45 $ fee for each one of them. I looked in NBME website and it is not clear even there.

Well, I guess I will take then exam 3..
I scored lowest on Qbank CNS patho section...Just 66%...
I have problem with the CNS terminology and tumors.. I keep mixing them up
The prep is going really really slow and this rainy damp soggy weather isnt helping it..
yesterday I had to give some time to my wife..I have barely been with her in last 4 days so finally she wanted us to go to temple ceremony.. it took 6 hours. I did relax a bit but I fell futher behind...

can you suspend the nbme test in teh middle like qbank? my test is next month can you tell me if its worht doing kaplan notes as my qbank scores are ot that great either or is it better to do brs books instead? im unsure which to commit to as they are both like nearly 300 pages for each subject! if i had tim ei would do both but which one would be better for the exam?

I am least educated on NBME tests so some one please help Ramo..
It seems from Dipti's post you cant.
I havent read kaplan material for patho so I cant comment on that but for rest I have extensively used kaplan notes and I like it....
I do find problem when I am doing Board Simulator Series questions often since the materail is not entirely covered.. but there is just so much you can read.
Today I did almost 400 q bank questions- score average 74% these were all patho, pathophysio
I am almost over with patho-pathophysio now...
I need to cover other subjects since i have been really slow...next will be micro-immuno
