Hi Katzaung or somebody, I am just wondering how far in advance can I submit H1B visa application to US embassy? I mean the actually starting date will be in June- July 2006, isn't it? Can I apply a few months before (like sometime in April/ May ) and do the US embassy usually allow to enter into the country before the actual starting date? For me, I think it would be great if one can come earlier as everybody needs a few preparation like housing, car, etc. Thanks in advance Kgyi

U need to get approved H1b STATUS AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION after getting required documents from the hospital!! H1B status is diffrent from H1B visa(statuys doesnt mean visa,u need to get ur visa stamped outside USA atleast for H1B) Yes u can apply pretty early and it is safer to apply early, coz programmes doenst want u to be starting late coz of visa issues. where did u match if u dont mind and which specialty?only share it if it isnt too personal!! Good Luck.

Also, if the state that you will be working in needs you to have a medical license, then you will need to have that, along with ECFMG certification and USMLE STep three in yours hands before you can apply. Go for the premium processing - it's worth the extra money!

oh and kgyi... i spoke with my lawyer who's filing my petition this January, you can only enter the USA 10 days before your actual start date in your contract. So for me, I will start on July 1, so the earliest I can arrive would be June 21, 2005. Rules are rules, can't do anything about it. I spoke with my PC and PD regarding this... they've had residents in their program with H1bs and they didn't have a problem adjusting, so I guess, I will just cross the bridge when I get there. hey BBB! how are you, thanks for your help and tips, I'm finally on my way to start doing what I love doing... Internal Medicine! thanks so much!

Hi Katzaung, bbb and trisue, Thanks for all of your imputs. I do appreciate that. Very useful for me. KZ, I got pre-match at Wyckoff Heights NY in Internal Medicine. Trishu, that's the last thing I want to hear. I think it would be difficult to settle down in a new place within 10 days, isn't it? Kgyi
