Interviewed here only 5 out of 10 turned up and PC was thoroughly pissed about this she was saying why dont these people give notices and she said she will not shortlist these kinda people next time round which was dissapointing for her.

Very old hodpital built in 1881 and was once very famous for cardiology, used to have 4 cardio fellowship positions now has only 2,i heard micheal reese became a for profit organisation few years ago and because of which they no longer sponsor H1B.

THIS YEAR MANY DOUBLE 99'S HAVE TAKEN PRE-MATCHES HERE,PD was on vacation and we didnt even knew it which i thought was rude on their part,I got to know that they have given away 16 pre-match spots this year and are left with only 4 categorical and hree priliminary positions!!!!!. That is a hallmark of a programme which is not sure of filling the quota via match.

Michael Reese tries to make ur interview as disorganised as possible (belive me they try their best)

In that we were asked to come at 7:30 i wonder why? made us to wait for ages---started with cheif residents welcome and info about the programme(basically from what she told the hospital has had great history)::: but what about future? no one knows? i have a strong suspicion that this hospital is financially unstable,it was bought by another company few years ago as i told you and that company officials were caught misappropriating funds from medicaid etc....(this was inside info which i got my hands on!!!--don't ask me how?!!!)

They called close to 500!!! yes 500 people for 21 or so categorical spots and expect that 300 will turnup!!!wow.

NEXT UP WAS MORNING REPORT--WHICH WAS GOOD because i thought the chief resident was very knowledgable but some of the residents were asking silly questions which showed their apparent lack of knowledge!!! then i waited for 2 hours for my first interview which was frustrating interviewd by associated PD from middle east,he was a nice chap, yes a really nice buy but he didnt know what to ask my god was it boring?!!!!,basically he started off with a question ''why do you want to come to USA when ur earning well in UK? i said earning isnt my goal in life one of my ambitions is in getting into good fellowship!! then he asked any questions about the programme ? !! with strruggling english(not that my english is great look at these gramattical errors not excusing spelling bungles!!), i asked how does IMGS' do when it comes to fellowship? He gave a very pessimistic answer that as a img u need not be extremely optimistic and take what u get in terms of fellowship!! I dont blame him guy must have strrugled because of his english and pessimistic attitude during his early days,But he was a nice guy.He was least intrested in research and papers which i had published and looked thoroughly confused!!!. Thus ended my first interview he didnt think of asking anything else and i didnt bother asking anything.

Next was dinner we had nice mexican food being brought into conference room as we were beign hauled away to canteen one of the interviewees said we shall stay back and convinced PC for us to stray back and listend to noon lecture in the conference room and at the same time ask questions and talk to the residents.which was good(because the food was good, hehe),wow nice mexican food just like Indian food, this was the only part of the interview which i enjoyed.

The lecture was about DIC,speaker was well learned middle eastern professer,it was very intresting and the speaker was very knowledgeble. But unfortunately i was feeling very sleepy at that time.

Then we were taken around the hospital for hospital tour---tour guide-sardarjee from amritsar, nice chatty and jovial guy--told us about plus and minuses(>) of the programmes----i was surprised that icu and ccu were empty, and when we went to ward i found out that the case was same in wards as well. I was told that this was because of holiday season,HUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!--i have my doubts hospital lacks patients -- thats why it might be under loss!! i dont know my assumption.

Then an exit interview with chief resident, the same one who conducted morning report. She was good basically general questions and i started interviewing her at one point about why she choose this programme? she said ''we donot choose being IMGS' but they choose''---- which in itself has got lots of meaning--she still thinks that she deserved a better programme, and even being a chief resident if u strrugle to get into fellowship then!!! rest upto your guesswork. All in all programme is better than Newyork programmes---like Bronx---but--if i have to go on J1 visa i would rather go to some other programme.

I still cannot belive that of 16 pre-matched positions offered about 6-7 are double 99's- i guess this is height of exploitation of IMG'S,what do u think?--or u think cant blame the programmes' blame double 99's as well. UR GUESS AND UR DECISION. GOODLUCK-HOPE THIS HELPD

l felt bad when i got a mail from michael reese saying that i should not come since all their positions have been filled up by prematch offers, initially i was pissed about it but after i saw this post i felt that it might have been a blessing in disguise. so thank you katzung. i interviewed at three places....rochester general, john hopkins sinai, ansd roger williams medical center. i got a prematch from roger williams, but i felt the program is small with no fellowships and research opportunities. i just hope i match in one of the two hospitals that i mentioned. good luck to you all and god bless.
