hi! i just wanna ask your opinion on something...i studied mastering the osce/csa by reteguiz, and in its checklists, not all patient encounters require the heart and lung exams. but i was bothered when my friend told me AFTER MY CS EXAM that in the checklists of first aid for the step 2 cs (which he used for review), the heart and lung exams were always done, regardless of the case.

do you guys think that i should have done the said exams on ALL patient encounters??? i've read the reviews about the reteguiz book, and most of them were positive. but i can't help but think that i might fail the exam because of this mistake. i also felt i've messed up in 2-3 of my patient encounters and in the telephone consultation.

Yes, heart and lung exam is required for all the patients, although not very detailed if this isn't related to the chief complaint. However, in the FA these are only two items on the checklist (examinee listened to the lungs, examinee listened to the heart), so don't worry too much. As long as you did the PE for the main system in each case you'll be ok. All the best with your exam.

For all Non-CArdiac and Non-Lung Cases, quickly auscultate the 4-heart areas and then listen to the breath sounds on the anterior chest , as part of the systems review.
