good question thank you. dopamine acts on differents receptors at different doses.at low doses it acts on d1(peripheral dopamine receptors in rnal arteroiles.causing increased flow.this fuction is useful in mods(multiorgan dysfunction or prerenal azotemia). at moderate levels it acts on b1 and increases heart rate.useful in bradyarrythmias(post mi).in high dodes it causes vasoconstriction acting on a1.so we usulay give moderate doses over prolonged periods in shocks and heart failure with brady.

coming to dobutamine it acts mainly on b1 than b2. so it has positive ionotropy.used in congestive heart failure.important thing for it is tachyphylaxis.

As far as dopamine : it inhibits prolactin, doesnt cross the BBB, in moderate doses is used to treat shock. Also phenylalanine is an early substrate in its synthesis.

Dopamine acts on D1 receptor-causing vasodilatation in renal & splanchnic beds

To remember Dopamine acts on D1,b1 & a1-depending on the dose .

Yes, anjushree I like that, that lightens it- D1, b1 & a1 (wish all could think like that)
{Also with that D1, b1 & a1 if add some letters to it you could spell the word "dobutamine"
