I am posting for first time in this very wonderfull forum with more wonderfull people, I need advice from you today. I read many posts of exam takers struggling with this killer exam and some are also working to pay bills and study.that is really sounding tough. i also have a problem, but different kind. and even it may sound abit silly but its big for me.

For this exam i have been trying is keep my nose deep in the books. Because it is not very easy. But family does not understand this. iam ending up miserable because family thinks i am studying too much and afraid i will have nervus breakdown!! Every time i am picking pace in reading, one will come and tell to not break my head so much, it is bad for health, to go out etc etc etc i am giong out alternate days. iam eating and sleeping. i dont know why they say that. first time yesterday i cried and cried and told them pleeeeease just give me one month to study hardfully. but alas! that also did not work.

to study or not to study the ques is now!!!!! also if yes then how to study? do i study for 15-20 hours like some great people have done. i did kaplan Qbank exam and got only 69%. I want to make up to 80% atleast, how can i do in 1 month? should i read all kaplan books again? i did only one time.

Also in my culture family looks for a suitable life-partner for me. I had to see some girls in proposals and so much time i spend daydreaming all that. i also dream to get a 99% in the exam. it may come true or not, but iw ant to be true to self in studying for that. pls anyone can give me kind(or even harsh) words of advise? many thanks for reading. God Bless you

well buddy, i say in some aspect your family is right, one does'nt necessarily has to cut him/herself out from their daily rituals in order to study for this exam, i had taken step1 and i don't remember a single day in which i have studied for more than 8-10 hrs, no body can take more than that, you hv to eat you hv to sleep you hv to do other works, some times u take a tea brake, or just walk around ur room, in either instance if you cut these out it will fall somewhere around 8 hrs, but the point is, yo don't hv to count ur study hrs, rather you should proceed with a particular goal in mind.

also it's true that this exam requires dedication, and you need to be in sound health as well, so try not to be a book worm totally, give some time to urself, and try to maintain a balance b/w ur social life and ur studies.

As for ur qbanbk scores, they look promising, but you gotta spewnd time with ur notes as well. FA comes in handy when time is short.

Good Luck.

You're lucky!! I wish my parents would actually give me a break! All they do is tell me study, study study! Honestly, i'll be differing frm ssrpk, but if you intend to get that 99 on the mle, you go ahead and study the way you do, coz that's the dedication you need to get it. For the rest of us, we're trying to put that much time into studying. Yeah, once in a while take a break but that score will make the difference in your life in the end.

lemmi tell ya a true story, a guy in our medical college, well, he was REAL stupid...i mean down to the basics...well, when it came down to the finals in our last year of college, do you wana know what happened? he got in the top 3 or 4! he studied 16hrs a day for about 2-3 months and kicked everyone's #$@! I remeber even right before the finals he wasn't really good student but look how he turned out....

Have you tried communicating to your family what your goal is and what it takes to get there?

As for your proposals....ru indian? I've been through the same, it takes alot of energy and time...and in the end, it's all in God's hand...really...don't rush into anything and make a big mistake

thankyou veryyy much ssrpk and neevyg. you both are very kind, to take out time from your studies to show me direction. you both are right actually and you said many things i knew it but was deep down inside me and i had to bring it up. and you both showed me where to find it, thanks.

there should be balance . that means 100% dedication to books doing studying and 100% dedication drinking tea in tea brakes.

Congretulations SSRPK you gave exam. can you pls guide me what can i do now to improve score of 69% kaplan to 99% USMLE in 1month? is this impossible? iwas a little above averege student in colege. can i depend on that knowlege? should i read kaplan notes again? or do more questions only? pleese guide me, i want to try my very best for this killer exam. thankyou. God bless you all.
