good topic for discussion smak,

well my fear is that if i donot sign pre-match then hospital wont rank u,one of the pd's who offered pre-match told me that last year they went to match with enough positions for osteopathic students and none who didnt sign pre-match matche with them,i think this is one of the ways to force people to sign for pre-match and it is sick.

I think at the most i wont match!!!,so i will go for match even though the one of the hospitals which gave me prematch is fourth on my list.!!!

It is a gamble for sure but i dont want to compromise on quality of education.

am stll in race for match.

thanks for the replies guys....keep postin

good luck for the match katzung....hope u get in at ur first choice.considering that u got prematch offers means u r a very strong candidate...don't think u'll be left out...definitely not!

and the pds telling u they won't rank the guys who refuse prematch ...might be just a tactic to scare ya into signing their contract...all progs want good residents...and they will rank high the ones they like.

oh ya...and i am surely running the race too..smiling face..

  #6

i dont ve any pre match offers,i would ve gone to match anyways.good luck

I am in the dilemma too. To prematch or not to? also how to rank my list? what should I look into a program and is there any way to rate these programs from an objective point of view? any service does this?

many, many people have signed pre-match. BUT still many remained in the match.

the pre-matched applicants reduced the # of quotas, which means that in match big # of applicants will compete for less positions!

ex: IM program in NY interviews ~200people/yr for ~20 positions= 10:1.They say they rank 95% of interviewed applicants(programs arent interested to remain with unfilled positions, so they double protect themselves,i.e-offer prematches and rank as many as possible for the match). So, the program pre-matched 10 applicants, thus left 190people for 10 positions. You may make your own calculations, but it's obviously seen that for each position the're much more applicants.

some of us, who have not accepted the pre-match, have "big balls", i.e - gamble to match their first choices.. the unforgetable experience!

guys why do we keep forgetting that if many ppl have signed prematch then they are automatically out of the match...leaving fewer candidates competing for match.

had those guys not signed prematch...there would be more seats in NRMP quota...but more competitive candidates.

my point....seats gone to prematch doesn't alter ur chances of matching that much.please let's stop obsessing over prematches and pray for the best 4 the match

smak,

there is something in your point, however let's look on the numbers, i mean the decreased quotas VS huge number of applicants which is still outhere + programs want to rank as many as possible from whom they interviewed and not to scramble person for unfilled position acc' his faxed files.

Does it make sense?

What do you think, guys?

when a candidate accepts prematch , the places he has gone for interviews become useless too. so the ratio of 10 to 1 is no longer there.

I don't mind at all. I had 16 interview invitations. I attended 4 interviews before I accepted the pre-match. I cancelled 12.
