I also accepted prematch offer. In my case they gave me a Letter of intent in which it says that they are willing to accept me into their Residency Program and upon signing that Letter I should withdraw from the Match. PD and I signed that Letter. After that I had to withdraw from the Match and had to print out the proof that the screen on NRMP site does show that I indeed withdrawn from the Match. After that I signed the contract and now have to fill out a bunch of papers. They suppose to mail me back a contract signed by the PD.

What do you guys choose as the reason for withdrawl after accepting the prematch? Applicant's request or non-NRMP position?

I chose applicant's request. It does not matter unless NRMP itself withdraws you ( general you) from the Match. Then that individual screwed for life.

CSobsessed... I do not understand what you mean by screwed for life. I accepted a prematch and the reason I put was non-NRMP position. Is that a bad thing?

r753_2000, I am terribly sorry if I alarmed you. I was more kidding than serious. The serious part is that if applicant violated NRMP rules in some way ( I mean like refused to come to the program he/she matched to and now applying for the next year) he/she can be barred from participating in the Match for good. If you yourself is withdrawing from the Match-- the reason does not really matter at all. In other words, the reason you put in ( non-NRMP position) is just fine. Happy New Year to you and I apologize for the worries I caused.

Well I am in the same position. Infact I got a pre-match and the PC asked me to withdraw from the match before they will send me any paperwork. I then called up NRMP and asked them that if I withdraw from the match can I be re-instated in the match, they said yes. So I think if the program decides to screw you, you can get back to the match.
