score 99/248
Dec 21, 22 2007
Preparation approx 2 months- Usmle world, Shahers, Kaplan notes
NBME: didnt do
CCS: USMLE CD is a must, practise the 5 cases, do again a day or two before exam
Though some ppl feel Shahers is useless, wud say its better than reading notes, CCS is more like a flow than a static question
I thank God for all tht he gave me, wish I just get what i deserve in the match coming up

Good luck to all takers

Hi everyone,

I just found out that I passed Step 3, I am so happy! I believe that my family's prayers were the key to success! smiling face

UW - 50%
Kaplan Q Bank (did 57% of Qs) - 61%
USMLE CD - 71%
Step 3 - 80 (197)

Didn't have time to read 1st Aid, Crush or Strong Medicine. I studied the questions from the q-banks.
For CCS I used UW but I read less than 40 cases. I practiced the USMLE CD though.
I had 7weeks to prepare (8-10 hrs/d).

I strongly recommend UW for everything (MCQs and CCS).

I just knew yesterday that I passed
My score is not good but praise the lord I passed with my lousy preparation
I got 77
I only prepared for 1.5 m
Did only u.w questions got 59%
Few Kaplan qbank and qbook questions
My advise is that prepare well it is the most difficult exam in all usmle
It is long but doable so manage your time well
Read ck books and notes I wish I did that
Do crush or 1st aid I didn’t do it
Do not trust nbme that much I got 450 but still I would say I lost my focus completely in the 1st day of the test I had a cold too
Ccs saves you I would have failed it it wasn’t for doing good in ccs
I studied ccs from u.w and shaher cd which in my opinion are enough for scoring good in ccs but if you don’t have clinical exp. Like me then give it 3 weeks to study
I thank you all and wish you all the best of luck
I was a silent observer here and I am really thankful to all the ppl who shared their exp. On this forum it really helped me change the way I approached the exams
I can say bye bye usmle (at last)
Good bless you all

UW - didn't do
Kaplan qBook did all ~ 65%
Prep material: Kaplan Notes + auxiliary (Washington manual, OAHCM)
Did ~ 2000 qs, however, nothing matched the ones at the real exam.

Hello Every one!!!

This forum has been extremely helpful for my Step 3 preparation and to deal with the stress. I think its time for me to contribute....

Just received my Step 3 score today after 8 weeks of waiting.
Score: 195/80 (Taken March 5-6, 2008)
NBME: 390 (One week before exam)
UW: 54%, timed, finished about 75% of questions.
USMLE CD: 75-80%

I prepared for the exam for a little over 7 weeks. Used mainly my own Step 2 CK notes and Step 2 CK kaplan books. Bought FA but dont really know how helpful it was and then did USMLE world for about 4 weeks. For the CCS I also used UW, finished about 40 out of the 88 and think it was enough.
I took Step 2CK on Oct. 2007. Did OK in my previous steps (pass on first attempts in the 80s)
MY SUGGESTIONS:
1) For those of you who can..... Take it as soon as possible after passing Step 2 CK, the study material is pretty much the same, just have to get used to the type of questions asked in Step 3 plus the CCS. Time is even more an issue in Step 3 than Step 2.
1.1) If time has gone by since you took Step 2 Ck, think about watching Kaplan videos and read their notes or take a look at some Family medicine review books. Although FA and Crush are good to kind of follow and organize your studying, I believe is not enough in my opinion to pass the exam. give yourself at least 3 full months of good studying.
2) I honestly think Step 2 CK notes are enough
3) For the CCS: practice the ones on the USMLE CD over and over so that you dominate the software and then UW cases are great to give you an idea on how to do it perfectly. In the actual exam, you dont need perfection but do enough to be complete.
MY EXAM EXPERIENCE:
Terrible feeling after Day 1. Had lots of problem with time, especially in the ER blocks. Could not read an average of 5-6 questions per block, although I answered every questions (pick your favorite letter, C?). Kind of felt I was failing the exam.....
Day 2: Felt much more confident, time was still an issue, could not read only 2-3 questions per block. The CCS cases were Ok, made a few mistakes, blew out one, and 3 finished early (I am sure I managed them well). The remaining ones took all 20 minutes and at the end the CCS was one of my best areas (above borderline).
CONCLUSION: I think Step 3 plays with your mind and stress level during the exam. Is a test of endurance. Keep calm during the exam regardless of how you think you are doing; the exam is tough and with just enough time to answer questions; dont waste your energy stressing out. Do your best and enjoy exam day nod

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE!
KEEP UP THE HARD WORK. IT IS DOABLE; YOU CAN DO IT, HAVE CONFIDENCE AND FAITH!!

God bless you all....

Score: 222/91

Exam taken: 28 & 29 thMarch 2008

Score reported on 30 April 2008

Score: 91/ 222

Step 1: Aug 07 - 96/230

Step 2ck: April 07- 99/247

UW: 59 %, finished all the questions and repeated all questions I have marked on the first run.

did not do kaplan, NBME...

I bought First Aid step 3 but I do not recommend it. I f you still have First Aid for Step 2ck then use it! For CCS - UW is very good! I did around 60 of the 88 cases and felt prepared. I also did some cases from First Aid.

I studied for about 6 weeks, on and off since I worked. Took 2 weeks off before the exam to study full time.

Good luck everyone.

Step 3: 242

Step 2: 262

Step 1: 240

Did not do UW, Qbank, NBME. Mainly did some questions from Qbook and skimmed through part of Boards and Wards. Currently doing a TY internship. Studied intermittently during my Pathology elective for about a week (2-3 hours per day). CCS cases were fun and fast. Didn't think I did too well when I took it.

For those wondering, current mean is 214 with a standard deviation of 17. This thread does seem to confirm that people get lower scores than on Step 1 and especially Step 2.

  #120

Score 79

prep was 4 just 3 weeks 2-4 hr/d during my ER rotation of internship. uw only, score was 59% on first go
They asked more basic question than usmleworld.
Cases were tough, my friends also have the same feeling, we killed 4 out of 9 patients but 3 of us passed.
Know the CD well for cases. You can practice by choosing different options in CD even though you know it is wrong, you'll know it well.

Good luck

greetings everyone
took Step 3 in April. Got results after 23 days. 212/87

did NBME test 4 days prior to the exam , got 520, so I expected a higher result on the actual test, but still fine with the outcome.

UW cumulative score was about 59%. I didn't like UW. Questions were too tricky. The actual exam is more straightforward.

I read First Aid for USMLE Step 3, did Kaplan Q Book, then about 40% of USMLE World, then about 200 questions from NMS review.
Being an intern really helps tackling the questions and solving case scenarios. I studied about 3 months on and off. glad to be done with USMLE. good luck to all!

  #122

hi everyone, just know that i passed step 3 with 87, would like to share something here:

NBME:470 a week before the test
