hello every1...
just taken step 1 today....will post a quick msg to those who r takin exam in near future...will write in detail later
first of all, take the NBME tests and try to get answers to the NBME ques...
i only took one form n sum images etc r repeated in real exam
anatomy...upper limb ws asked
histo... do the histo pics ...
embryo.... ez basic ques were asked
biochem... enzymes were asked  ... like u need to know the metabolic pathways..i didnt do them well though i ws expecting then to come....
molecular bio....not as much as i expected....2nd msgrs were asked again n again
physio... respiratory system , up and down going arrows
pharma...mechanisms n common side effects,,, not tuff...
patho... patho/micro/physio mix ques..
beh sci...doc pt relationships
biostats... weird calculations....just did guess work...
genetics...weird ques again...
none of the stuff asked again n again on q bank ws there , no calculations frm pharma/physio etc...no metabolic diseases , no diseases given in start of FA in pathology....

thank you ujaala.will post your preparation?which edition you were using for kaplan?i have 2001 and finished one reading.should i buy new one?

hi ujala...i hope u did great in ur exam..and God will give u great success...
i am also taking my exam in Dammam center .living in Riyadh ...i just wana the enviorment of the center.did they give u ear plugs or we have to take it byself....i actually need very quiet enviorment for concentration..
my exam is on 25 dec..thanks

i will write my about my preparation ..soon , need sumt time to think it over...
Dipti , well yes u need to buy new edition , its very necessary ..i guess its ok if one has 2004 (now 2005 has come i used 2004) but well 2001 will b old, actually kaplan ppl make changes according to wht is high yield on exam n if u r reading old books then u wont knw whts being asked now...
the first step to success is ...to know what exactly to study as medicine is such a vast field...so i wud suggest tht do buy the newest edition ...
drsnq..well glad to know that ur also taking exam in dammam,,,but basically i can help u only if ur a girl as there r 2 centres here , one for girls n other for guys...
anyway...this girls centre has only 8 seats, yes they did provide me with ear plugs but i didnt use them...there wsnt a lot of noise...AC ws ON so do get sumthing warm along with u..i ws relieved tht i got a shawl with me...the examiner allowed me to keep water with me .. there is a lil bit of language barrier as they were saudis.. i mean they understand english but u hv to talk in easy words...eg i asked her tht if i hv a problem how shall i ask u to come? she didnt understand , then i said that what if the computer close then how shall i ask you to come.. ? then she understood...
anyway u got to raise ur hand n they will see n come...but nothing like that happened...the computer stations and chairs etc were all fine / comfortable...there ws a glass wall b/w u n the examiner...n they has computers with which they can observe ur computer screen......
every1 got a separate cubicle....so no distraction...its very much u n ur computer screen...
the day i took exam there were 3 other girls ..all saudis frm riyadh who were taking usmle...2 others came for sum other exam n went away at 11 00. ... any other question???

well i guess i shall write a bit more about the exam experience...it may help sum1 in a similar situation as me (i mean pregnant)!
well i woke up at 6 15, my exam started on 8 00 ..i took a lot of eatables with me...though none of the other girls brought much...i took milk , instant coffee...hot water in thermos, 2 water bottles..sandwiches, chocolates, sweets biscuits etc with me...
i think in addition to ur lunch u should hv coffee and also panadol/tylenol so tht if u get a headache u can relieve it...
i ws a lil nervous in the first block but then i gained confidence...i didnt take any break in the first 2 blocks but after tht i had to take break after every block...to go to wash room...i also took milk and choc biscuits after 2 blocks...then i went in for 3rd...luckily i cud save 5 min frm every block so tht i cud take a break after every block...after 3 blocks i started to feel sleepy (slept for 6 hrs previous nite) so i took a cup of coffee.....after the 4th i ws still a lil sleepy, so i took another coffee cup (dont worry this ws prob coz of my pregnancy...wont happend to u) i hv never felt sleepy in any exam b4 even if i slept for 2-3 hrs previous nite.....anyway...after 2 cups i cud go thru the 5th n the 6th block.....after block 6 i ws tired again... could make use of a 3rd cup but i didnt ...coz i didnt want to hurt my baby with a caffeine overdose...so i just went to washroom n splashed water in my face n eyes...it worked...i noticed tht i had 30 min break time left...so i just sat around n relaxed for 10 min n then went in for the final block ..while doing the final block i cudnt believe tht i m on the last block n ws a lil worried tht may b a block is still left...i ws assured when the survey came up... i answered tht n then they told me u hv completed the exam..
relieved i went out n called my husband to pick me up.. i ws tense b4 the exam b/c i felt too weak coz of the flu n ws worried tht i wont hv the stamina....and once it ws over,,,i didnt think how i did..i ws just glad tht its over...n i ws able to complete it....
