most common organisms causing bacterial endocarditis..

in native valves??

prosthetic valves??

intravenous drug abusers...??????????

native valve: strept viridans
prosthetic valve:staph aureus and candida
IV drug abusers:staph aureus

i think with prosthetic valves most common cause is staph epidermidis....then comes staph aureus...smiling face

i think its staph aureus for prothetic valves

native valve endocarditis: acute: staph aurens ;sub-acute:strept viridans

prosthetic: early:staph epidermis, late:strept (mostly viridans)

iv drug abusers:staph aurens

native valves- normal valve-staph aureus; damaged- strep viridans(60%) staph aureus(20%)

prosthetic valves- <12mnths after procedure- staph epidermidis; >12mnths strep viridans.

iv drug abusers-tricuspid valve MC- staph aureus; left sided valve- enterococcus .

overall MC organism in IE Strep viridans.
