What's the difference between a phosphotransferase and a protein kinase? raised eyebrow

I don't think there is a difference between phosphotransferase and kinase

  #3

protein kinase phoshorilates proteins

  #4

i'm not sure but it think the difference it's that a protein kinase phosporilates using ATP as a substrate and a phosphotransferase uses other substrates...but i don't know that's why i'm asking...and if they were the same,in the synthesis of secretory membrane and lysosomal proteins, the phosphotransferase that phosphorylates the mannose residues should be called a protein kinase, but it's not....sad

i figured it out...a phosphotransferase is any class of enzymes including the kinases that catalyzes the transfer of phosphorus containing groups from one compound of another...smiling face so there is no difference...anyways thanks...i just had that doubt...
