Guys, we all experienced some Qs which are very long, and at the end of the Q stem, it says: “the physician make the diagnosis of xxx or the diagnosis is xxx”. Can we ASSUME the diagnosis is correct, and work out the answer based on our knowledge of the diagnosed disease? OR should we first double check whether this statement /diagnosis is correct itself? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I knid of feel we should believe the dignosis, at least as in Q bank or Q book; but saw some Qs posted on this forum, this is may not be the case. Will give my step1 soon. Please help me clarify this!
Thanks

Well, think about it rationally. Any sentence in a Q has been put for either one of 2 reasons:

1. Giving a hint (i.e. the sentence is right), or
2. Examining your information (i.e. the sentence is wrong, or is a common mistake, so they want to know if you can pass that trick or not)

So I believe that assuming the sentence is correct and work out the answer on that base is not at all times correct. As I said sometimes the sentence is incorrect, sometimes it's a trick, sometimes it's a common mistake. So you'd need to read the whole Q and evaluate it YOUR way in that sort of questions, and remember the last sentence is there to help you, and it definitely has a significance, so do not ignore it.

Generally speaking, in all cases, I don't think there would be a sentence with no significance in a USMLE Q, as that would be pointless, confusing, and a little bit mean.

Just my own opinion rolling eyes

if they told you about diagnosis, believe it, forget about every signs and symptoms they were telling you in the question. Actually they are giving you a clear idea to approach the answer quickly. Double check, it will take time, better read the question once, with very good concentration.

I'm totally convinced that my thought is correct. Please re-read Read post #2
