Dear Friends, Hi! I am preparing for USMLE. I am concerned about the issue of visa. I am from India. I heard that people were being given visitors visa for Step 2CS easily in India. Is this true? Is it impossible to get a visitor's visa if one is a doctor? Also, is it difficult to convert from a visitor's visa to a H1 or J1 visa if one gets a residency??? Please do reply Thanks to everyone

well, ppl do get visit visa (B1/B2) or CS exams, it varies from ppl to ppl but not impossible, bnut make sure u don't overstay. u cannot do ur residency on a visit visa, you visa tatus has to be converted to either J1 or H1, depending on which one is sponsored by the hospital where u match!

Hi...it seems visa for Step2CS are now easy after a lawsuit filed in that favour on the basis that if steps 1 and 2 were allowed to be taken in foreign coutries, it was immoral to have visas rejected for step 2 CS - as it was a all a part of the same exam continuum. However, they are probably granted for a short time - i am not sure how long. Anyways you will need that visa for Step 2 CS and your interviews too - so try to schedule your step 2 CS around Oct. and apply way early in Sept - so that your interviews are around the same period... you mostly will have to get back to India and then wait for the match results - once u get matched...u can start the visa process in India g/l
