Hi there

Can the same synapse be inhibitory and excitatory? Can the same synapse use different transmitters?

thx

technically speaking, synapse is a junction between nerve ending and the dendrites, however if we go deeper, dendritic receptacles are influenced by several different nerve endings at a time, now whether EPP will be excitatory or inhibitory depends on the the type and conc. of neurotransmitters that are present in the vicinity of a synapse.

however, any particular nerve ending may contain one type of neurotransmitter (excitatory or inhibitory)
