I am holding green card of Canada, if I pass the USMLE, can I apply for a residency position in states? Do I need a J-1 VISA?

Another question, if I pass the usmle, can I apply for a residency position in Canada hospital?

Thanks!

Yes, you will need a J-1 or H visa. You cannot apply for the TN visa.

You would have to check the requirements for obtaining post graduate training in Canada - I believe that it is hard for non-Canadien grads to obtain.

Unfortunately, I can answer you on your question.
Unfortunately, because the answer is nosad
I'm holding ECFMG certificate, and last year(-2003), I went to visit my relatives in Canada, and to participate in Scramble.
During that period I asked several Canadian medical institutions (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeonc, etc.),hospitals, about ECFMG certificate,USMLE-s,and the answer was identical-negative.
Canada has her own licensing exam, and if you are a foreign physician(it's little easier if you are English or USA citizen, if I remember), you have to pass it if you want to practice in Canada.
Though you have Canadian green card....it would be smart to write to authorities, and present your case individuallly...
Hope I helped...
