A victim of blunt abdominal trauma requires a partial hepatectomy. He is rapidly transfused with eight units of appropriately cross-matched packed red blood cells from the blood bank. He is noted in the recovery room to be bleeding from intravenous puncture sites and the surgical incision. His coagulopathy is likely due to thrombocytopenia and deficiencies of which clotting factors? A.II only B.II and VII C.V and VIII D.IX and X E.XI and XII

answer C. when large amounts of banked blood r trnasfused, the recepient gets an acquired coagulopathy due to deficiency in V and VIII(hence these r called the labile factors), in addition to a thrombocytopenia. II and VII would be low in liver problem, but here its only a partial hepatectomy and the deficiency is not acute( half-life 6-7 days in blood)
